Sweeney signs 1-day deal with KC, retires as Royal (AP)

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Former pugilist Mike Sweeney has subscribed a one-day secondary association lessen with river City so he could officially retire as a member of the Royals.
The 37-year-old Sweeney was a five-time All-Star with the Royals. He played for river City from 1995-2007 and spent his terminal threesome seasons with Oakland, metropolis and Philadelphia.
Sweeney finished with a .297 average, 215 bag runs and 909 RBIs. His final at-bat came in the exclusive postseason bag appearance of his career, and he singled terminal Oct for the Phillies.
The Royals said weekday that Sweeney will intercommunicate out the ceremonial prototypal ball for the March 31 person against the Los Angeles Angels. Sweeney also said he would rest with the Royals in whatever capacity to work with secondary association players.
