United States relegated in Fed Cup for 1st time (AP)
STUTTGART, FRG – The United States has been relegated from the top-tier World Group in the FRS Cup for the first time, dropping to FRG when Melanie Oudin lost her singles match to Andrea Petkovic.
Petkovic won 6-2, 6-3 Sunday to give FRG an unconquerable 3-0 advance in the best-of-five series.
The Americans hit won a achievement 17 FRS Cup titles and were runners-up the last two years. But they were without the reverend sisters and could not overcome the higher-ranked Germans.
