MLS: No desire for promotion-relegation (AP)

NEW YORK – Major League Soccer has no intention to institute promotion and relegation and module not eliminate conferences to match another leagues in the world.

Speaking weekday with the Associated Press Sports Editors, MLS President Mark Abbott said "promotion-relegation is not something we're hunting at."

"I don't see that in the future, sure in any commonsensible future for us," he said.

MLS swollen to 18 teams this year with the constituent of metropolis and Vancouver, and Montreal module tie in 2012. Abbott said as the league gets bigger, it haw not ready a counterpoised schedule. Because of its desire to promote regional rivalries, MLS is not fascinated in the so-called "single table" schedule used by another countries.

The MLS also module ready its March-to-November schedule and not align with soccer's international calendar, which runs from August to May/June.
